Killzone 3, Nuked Pyrrhus by Jesse van Dijk

Killzone 3 Concept Art by Jesse van Dijk

March 21st, 2011

Killzone 3 is a gorgeous-looking game. Its predecessor Killzone 2 was also another one. The biggest difference is that the third one is much more varied and colorful. Dutch concept artist Jesse van Dijk may have had some influence in that. He’s worked with various game development studios and is currently signed on with Killzone developer Guerrilla Games. His portfolio is full of top-notch work so go check it out. [Jesse van Dijk]

Michael Jordan Typography Art by Ziarekenya Smith (PhreshSoldier)

Michael Jordan Typography Art and More

October 6th, 2010

NBA 2K11 came out yesterday and I’ve been playing it any chance I get outside of work, eat, and sleep. I don’t normally like sports simulation games, selling my Madden NFL 10 just a couple of weeks playing it, but this game is perhaps the best of the current generation. And it’s got Jordan on it! That’s unheard of; he’s only graced on less than a handful of games I can think of. The NBA 2K Jordan edition has re-sparked my childhood interest in the “Greatest of All Time” and I was looking on the Internet for some Jordan wallpapers. I came across this great typography artwork from Ziarekenya Smith, known as PhreshSoldier on deviantART. Sure enough, I was enamored by the typeface artwork I had to look for other examples too. I ended up finding great ones of Steve Jobs, Rihanna, Bruce Lee, Morgan Freeman, Mos Def, and Barack Obama. [deviantART]

mozilla by sandara

Artwork Spotlight: mozilla

August 12th, 2009

sandara does it once again with another masterpiece. mozilla represents the real-life battle between the protagonist Firefox and the antagonist Internet Explorer, appropriately represented as a hero and a monster respectively. While Firefox fights for the people’s ideals: open source, Web standards, and transparency; IE makes people’s lives miserable with its advocacy of closed source and proprietorship and defiance to Web standards. It’s an uphill battle to free ourselves from IE’s massive stranglehold. But with the people standing by Firefox, we can WILL eventually overcome and slay this beast.

Sorry for the tangents and going all philosophical: back to the artwork. I admire everything about this piece; from its aesthetic quality to its symbolism. sandara is amazing, so go check out her gallery.

Artwork Spotlight: lovers in darnassus

July 19th, 2009

For my first installment of Artwork Spotlight, which focuses on artwork rather than photographs, we have lovers in darnassus by sandara on deviantART. Normally, I’m not impressed by fan art of World of Warcraft because the official Blizzard artists’ works are so impressive. They set an incredibly high bar for quality of fantasy art. They’re tough acts to follow. But sandara has done exceptionally well here with this piece. The mood and ambiance are definitely felt here the same way as being in Darnassus in-game. The Raven Lord mount is a rather nice touch. I prefer the Horde myself, but good work nonetheless. [deviantART]

The Real-Life Charlie Brown by Tim O’Brien

The Real-Life Charlie Brown

This is Chuck Brown. He is real and I guess, a monster.

Mad props to Tim O’Brien for ruining and twisting my fond childhood memories beyond the point of recovery forever. [Drawger]
