Microsoft Needs Better Graphic Designers

August 26th, 2009

Apparently, blacks aren’t very popular in Poland. And where can I find a MacBook without the stupid Apple logo?! I’ve been wanting one because I actually work for Microsoft and don’t want anyone to know I use Apple products, ya know? [Engadget]

Update: Microsoft has issued an apology on this matter. Now we await for their apology for IE6… [CNET]

Artwork Spotlight: mozilla

August 12th, 2009

sandara does it once again with another masterpiece. mozilla represents the real-life battle between the protagonist Firefox and the antagonist Internet Explorer, appropriately represented as a hero and a monster respectively. While Firefox fights for the people’s ideals: open source, Web standards, and transparency; IE makes people’s lives miserable with its advocacy of closed source and proprietorship and defiance to Web standards. It’s an uphill battle to free ourselves from IE’s massive stranglehold. But with the people standing by Firefox, we can WILL eventually overcome and slay this beast.

Sorry for the tangents and going all philosophical: back to the artwork. I admire everything about this piece; from its aesthetic quality to its symbolism. sandara is amazing, so go check out her gallery.

I’m surprised it took me this long to discover this great artist. Jana Schirmer is a digital painter and colorist from Germany. A lot of her work can be see in Marvel Comics prints and she is also on deviantART.

HTML 5 Canvas Experiment

A Glimpse of HTML5′s Capabilities

August 7th, 2009

The guys at IO 9elements have created a great showcase of HTML5′s capabilities. The page loads 100 tweets related to HTML5 and displays them using a JavaScript-based particle engine. Each particle represents a tweet and clicking on one of them will make the entire tweet message appear onscreen. Quite impressive considering there’s no Flash.

HTML5 is taking great strides in adoption and exposure, with all of the modern browsers supporting most of the new features already (with Internet Explorer lacking the most support unsurprisingly). HTML5′s main agenda is to rid of plug-in-based rich Internet media applications technologies such as Adobe Flash and Microsoft Silverlight. Once this baby hits full stride in the near future, you’ll be seeing really cool web apps and webtoys without the need for these clunky, proprietary technologies. Even YouTube will be fully realized without Flash.
